Mark Walden is Chief Meteorologist of the abc24 Weather Team. With more than a decade of forecasting experience in the Mid-South, Mark has seen it all! Whether it's an intense heat wave, bitter cold or a severe thunderstorm, you can count on his forecast to be "on the mark".
Mark joined the abc24 Weather Team in 1999 from WEHT-TV in Evansville, IN where he worked as a television meteorologist for nearly two years. Originally from Tampa, Florida, Mark holds a bachelor's degree in meteorology from Florida State University. A true professional, he holds the seal of approval from the American Meteorological Society (AMS) and has earned a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) designation. He also holds the Seal of Approval from the National Weather Association (NWA) and serves on the NWA Television Seal of Approval Review Board.
Not a bad resume for someone who had a fear of clouds as a child and was told by his 9th grade teacher that he would never become a meteorologist. His story continues to inspire children all over the Mid-South to follow their dreams and fulfill their passions. If you would like for Mark to emcee your event or have him visit your school, church, or event to speak about weather safety, click on the Doppler section of our website to make your request.
Outside of work, Mark enjoys traveling, reading, and has a flair for adventure. In his spare time, you'll likely find Mark trying to catch the one that got away at a local fishing hole. He has also taken up salsa dancing to cure his two left feet (so watch out).
