MEMPHIS--Freezing temperatures make a return to the Mid-South Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning.  In fact, areas near the Tennessee River along with NE Arkansas and the Missouri boot heel will see temperatures as cold as the lower 20s!

The cold snap will not last long however, as a slow but gradual warming trend begins as early as Wednesday afternoon.  Highs Wednesday afternoon will remain cooler than normal in the low 50s.  Even so, it will represent a milder afternoon than what was experienced Tuesday.

Thursday morning will not be as cold but many spots will still reach the lower 30s.  Thursday afternoon will see the 60 degree mark briefly.  Both Wednesday & Thursday will be sunny and dry.  Warming continues Friday as does dry weather.

This weekend, a southerly wind direction will bring an increase in moisture resulting in more cloud cover.  Especially Sunday which will be mostly cloudy and feature isolated showers.  Sunday and Monday will see the warmest weather over the next 7 days with highs in the low 70s; not very December-like at all!

Tuesday a weather system will bring a chance of rain, but unseasonably warm weather will continue.
