Memphis, TN--Mid and upper level moisture was able to overcome dry conditions closer to the ground to produce a cold rain Wednesday evening.  Evaporational cooling will occur as the rain falls into the dry air.  This will result in temperatures falling to between 29-32 degrees overnight in the Memphis metro area.  Although light and spotty, freezing rain will occur causing some icy spots to develop.  Temperatures will remain below freezing through 9:00 a.m. Thursday in Memphis.  In NE Arkansas and the Missouri boot heel, freezing temperatures will last through the lunch hour before moving above freezing during the afternoon.  Rain will become heavy and widespread during the afternoon and evening.  Thankfully, temperatures will have moved above freezing ending winter weather travel concerns.  Rain will end Thursday night; areas of fog are possible early Friday.  Dry weather occurs Friday through Sunday with warming temperatures.  More rain is expected Monday.
