Every school year, the average teacher winds up spending as much as $400 out of their own pockets on pencils, paper, crayons and other classroom supplies because of tight school budgets. Nationwide, teachers are spending more than a billion dollars every year to stock their classrooms for students.
Chick-fil-A restaurants in Memphis, Germantown, Southaven, Olive Branch and Millington are reaching out to customers and the community to help make sure all classrooms in Memphis City Schools, Shelby County Schools and Desoto County Schools are well stocked when students arrive in August. The Mortgage Bankers Association, Memphis Area Association of Realtors, Memphis Area Homebuilders Association and Q-107.5FM are also joining the effort to rally for much-needed school supplies.
Beginning Friday, July 20, 2012, Chick-fil-A and all participating partners will host the Topple the Truck school supply donation drive for local teachers. Unused school supplies will be collected through August 3, 2012 at area Chick-fil-A restaurant locations. All types of school supplies are needed, including pens, pencils, notebook paper, drawing paper, crayons, markers, calculators, rulers, book covers, folders and anything else that will help teachers get their classrooms ready for the upcoming school year. The donations will be loaded onto a giant truck August 2-3 and delivered to the three school districts on Saturday, August 4.
For every unused school item in its original package that is donated during the Topple the Truck supply drive, Chick-fil-A will give out a coupon for a FREE Chick-fil-A chicken sandwich.
