This coming Friday, July 27th, The Orpheum Theatre will host a “bean” drive for the Mid-South Food Bank in conjunction with the screening of Mel Brooks’ western comedy classic, Blazing Saddles.
Everyone who brings a can of beans (a tribute to the infamous campfire scene) will receive $2 off the price of admission in addition to helping The Mid-South Food Bank stock the pantries of needy families in the Mid-South community. The food drive is open to anyone wanting to participate and canned beans are being collected currently at both The Orpheum Theatre Box Office and The Orpheum ticket counter at the Booksellers of Laurelwood.
“Hunger doesn't take a vacation over the summer and The Mid-South Food Bank is at the heart of making sure that many families get through the year,” says Pat Halloran, Orpheum President & CEO. “We are proud to be partnering with the Food Bank on this community-wide collection effort.”
The Orpheum Theatre staff will also host an internal food drive for the Mid-South Food Bank prior to Blazing Saddles on Thursday, July 26th. "The Orpheum Theatre has been part of the Memphis community for almost 85 years and has long tradition of involvement with many local charities,” says Halloran. “This year, our team felt it was particularly important to give back.”
The Orpheum’s annual summer film series, this year called “Cults, Classics and Concerts,” is jam-packed with classic movie hits and cult favorites, and offers big entertainment at a small price. In addition to award-winning, critically acclaimed classic films, The Orpheum offers pre-show activities such as live music from local Memphis artists, trivia contests, themed costume contests, vintage film shorts, and even a mini-concert on The Orpheum's own Mighty Wurlitzer Organ before select feature films.
Tickets for Blazing Saddles are just $7 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. Doors open at 6:15 PM for premovie fun. A 10-ticket pack is available for $50 in advance at The Orpheum Theatre Box Office or the ticket counter at The Booksellers at Laurelwood and may be used in any combination for any movie in the series.
