If the only subject your student enjoys is lunch or recess, it might be time to try a new type of schooling. Tennessee Virtual Academy (TNVA), a tuition-free online public school that offers highly individualized online education for Tennessee students in grades K-8, is holding an in-person information session at Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library in Memphis on Tuesday, September 4 from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Interested parents and students are invited to meet school staff to learn more about whether an online public school might be a good alternative to the traditional brick-and-mortar public school model.
Enrollment in Tennessee Virtual Academy is open to students in grades K-8 who reside anywhere in the state of Tennessee.
Tennessee Virtual Academy might be the right choice for a variety of students, including:
o Advanced learners who are either performing above grade level in one or more subjects or are motivated to increase their knowledge beyond the basic course offerings in specific subjects.
o Struggling students who need more time to grasp concepts, or who may need an environment with fewer distractions.
o Students from military families, who might be prone to moving and changing schools more often that the average student.
o Athletes and performers who need classes that can travel with them during practices, rehearsals, and competitions.
Tennessee Virtual Academy’s information session is just one example of the regular in-person events the school organizes for students and families throughout the school year. Other opportunities include school clubs, ice cream socials and trips to local museums and zoos.
Event attendees will be able to meet school teachers and have all their questions answered by knowledgeable Tennessee Virtual Academy staff. For those unable to attend, there are Live Online Information Sessions on August 15, 21 and 29 at 10am CST/11am EST.
