Tire Redemption Program to Resume

MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - The popular Tire Redemption Program is coming back. Aimed at reducing blight by offering incentives to clean up neighborhoods of old tires, the program will resume on Wednesday, February 27 and pay $1 per tire to qualifying participants.

Residents of Shelby County with valid Tennessee identification can bring waste tires in a vehicle with valid Shelby County registration to Liberty Tires located at 3000 Elvis Presley beginning at 7:00 a.m. Checks will be mailed to the address on the ID within 7 – 10 days.

Individuals will be limited to 100 tires per trip and a maximum of 2 trips per day to the facility. The hours of operation for this program are Wednesday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., or until funds run out.


F.A.Q.’s (Provided by City of Memphis)

1. Is there a limit on the number of tires I can bring for redemption?
CITIZENS MAY REDEEM UP TO 200 TIRES PER DAY, PER PERSON.

2. Where do I take the tires for redemption?
THE ONLY AUTHORIZED REDEMPTION SITE IS "LIBERTY" AT 3000 ELVIS PRESLEY BLVD.

3. What do I need to redeem tires?
CITIZENS NEED TO HAVE WITH THEM A VALID & CURRENT IDENTIFICATION CARD OR DRIVER'S LICENSE ISSUED BY THE STATE OF TENNESSEE. THE I.D. MUST DISPLAY A CURRENT RESIDENCE ADDRESS WITHIN SHELBY COUNTY. ANY VEHICLE USED TO HAUL REDEMPTION PROGRAM TIRES MUST DISPLAY VALID AND CURRENT SHELBY COUNTY VEHICLE REGISTRATION. REDEEMERS WILL HAVE TO SIGN A "REDEEMER'S CERTIFICATE", CERTIFYING THAT THE TIRES THEY PRESENT FOR REDEMPTION WERE RECOVERED FROM WITHIN SHELBY COUNTY.

4. I am in the Tire Business, can I participate?
NO TIRE BUSINESS OR WASTE TIRE CARRIER, GENERATOR, HAULER, DISPOSER OR SORTER MAY PARTICIPATE IN THE TIRE REDEMPTION PROGRAM

5. How much will I get paid for the tires?
CITIZENS MAY REDEEM ANY PASSENGER CAR OR TRUCK TIRE, (WITHOUT RIMS), FOR $1.00 PER TIRE. NO TRACTOR TRAILER OR HEAVY EQUIPMENT TIRES WILL BE ACCEPTED FOR REDEMPTION.

6. When can I start?
THE REDEMPTION PROGRAM WILL BEGIN FEBRUARY 27, 2013.

7. What will the hours be for the Redemption Center?
THE TIRE REDEMPTION CENTER WILL OPERATE WEDNESDAY - FRIDAY, FROM 7:00 AM THROUGH 3:00 PM, UNTIL FUNDS RUN OUT.

8. How will I get paid?
THERE WILL BE NO CASH ON SITE AT THE REDEMPTION CENTER. PAYMENT FOR REDEEMED TIRES WILL BE PROCESSED & MAILED ONCE A WEEK. PAYMENTS WILL BE SENT ONLY TO THE ADDRESS DISPLAYED ON THE REDEEMER'S VALID TENNESSEE I.D CARD/DRIVER’S LICENSE.
