Maryville Defeats Whitehaven For 6A Crown

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Maryville used two fourth quarter touchdowns to defeat Whitehaven 23-7 Saturday night and win the Class 6A championship for the second straight year, 23-7.

The Rebels (15-0) earned their 13th state championship and have won 29 straight games.
Leading 9-7 entering the fourth quarter, Shawn Prevo scored on a 2-yard run with 10:33 left. Two plays after a 10-yard punt to the Tigers 30, Patton Robinette threw a 29-yard scoring pass to Jacob West with 9:21 left.

West also had a 19-yard second-quarter touchdown run. The lone score for the Whitehaven Tigers (14-1) came on a second-quarter 74-yard fumble recovery and return by Adam Collins, the game's defensive MVP.

Timmarious Mitchell was 13 of 32 passing for 131 yards for the Tigers, and Mark Dodson rushed 13 times for 82 yards. Robinette, the game's offensive MVP, was 6 of 10 passing for 85 yards. Prevo carried 20 times for 57 yards.
