MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Ridgeway won the battle of the "big dogs" in the boys Class 3A title game of the Memphis Interscholastic Athletic Association championships Saturday. The Roadrunners beat Melrose, 83-79 in the final game of the day at White Station High School.
In Class 3A girls action, Overton upset Central for the second consecutive year to win city braggin' rights. Cornelia Fondren exploded in the second half to lead the Wolverines to the 67-62 win in overtime. She scored 28 points in the third and fourth quarters on the way to a high of 30 points.
In Class 1A, Booker T. Washington boys remain undefeated and improved to 25-0 after beating Westwood, 72-65. Martavious Newby led the Warriors with 23 points. Khalil Spencer added 21 points for BTW.
