JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) — Arkansas State University employees are being warned about a scheme in which someone is filing fraudulent federal tax returns in the workers' names and apparently claiming their refunds.

The university on Tuesday said the Internal Revenue Service indicates at least 16 employees have been sent notices that their personal information was used to file fraudulent tax returns. The school says those workers had not yet submitted their legitimate returns.

ASU Vice Chancellor for Finance Len Frey says the administration is investigating and that it is presently unknown how personal information of employees was obtained.

The university advised employees to contact the IRS directly and says it will work to keep employees informed.
