SOUTHAVEN, Miss. (AP, abc24.com) - Officials in Southaven, Miss., have selected a new private sanitation company from Alabama that will cost the city about $200,000 less this year in trash-collection charges.
During a special meeting Thursday, The Commercial Appeal reports aldermen unanimously approved a five-year contract with Arrow Disposal Service Incorporated, or ADSI, based in Abbeville, Ala.
ADSI replaces Red River Service Corp., which has collected the city's trash for six years.
The city will pay ADSI $5.23 per month for each trash can per household. That amount is $1.07 less than it paid Red River, for a savings of $218,280.
ADSI's contract begins in May, and the company will bring in new trucks and new 96-gallon containers.
