NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP, abc24.com) - State Rep. Glen Casada has abandoned his last-minute attempt to pass a measure to lift a cap on how much money legislative candidates can accept from political action committees.
The Franklin Republican had taken the bill off notice earlier, which usually indicates that a bill is dead for the year. But Casada on Monday brought the bill back up for a vote in a House committee, which advanced it to a full floor vote.
Casada first delayed a vote on the measure on Tuesday. He later withdrew it altogether without explanation.
The bill would also have given corporations more freedom in structuring their political donations and done away with a prohibition on political giving from insurance companies.
The Senate passed its version on an 18-11 vote last month.
