LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Republican U.S. Rep. Rick Crawford has won re-election in Arkansas' 1st Congressional District.
Crawford defeated Democratic challenger Scott Ellington in Tuesday's election, keeping an eastern Arkansas House seat in the Republican Party's control. Crawford was elected in 2010 and is the first Republican to represent the district since Reconstruction.
Ellington is a prosecutor and helped negotiate last year's deal that freed the three men convicted of killing three Cub Scouts in West Memphis in 1993.
Crawford was re-elected after moving to the center on several issues since he was first elected. He angered conservatives earlier this year for proposing a tax hike on millionaires in exchange for a balanced budget amendment and has also said he's interested in lifting the congressional moratorium on earmarks.
