LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP, abc24.com) - Two Democrats running for congressional office in Arkansas say they supported gay marriage long before President Barack Obama endorsed the idea last week.

But most of the Democrats seeking U.S. House seats in the state say the president's position isn't changing their belief that marriage is between a man and a woman.

Ken Aden and Herb Rule are the only congressional candidates in the state who say they agree with the president that gays and lesbians should be allowed to marry. Neither faces an opponent in the May 22 primary.

The two stand out from a field of Democrats who aren't eager to embrace the president's stance, especially in a socially conservative southern state that doesn't recognize gay marriage or civil unions.

It is not illegal in any state to marry your same-sex partner.
