RIPLEY, Miss. (AP, abc24.com) - A Ripley police officer and his wife have been charged with misdemeanor animal neglect after Tippah County authorities found two of the couple's horses starving in a pasture.

Officials say one of the two horses was unable to get up, and was later euthanized by a veterinarian.

The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports Eric Bibb and his wife Natalie, both in their early 30s, of Blue Mountain, are each free on $2,500 bond. Bibb resigned from the police department Thursday.

The second horse is now being taken care of by another individual and is expected to make a full recovery, sources said. The pasture owner faces no charges in the case.
