RIPLEY, Miss. (AP, abc24.com) - A former Ripley High School teacher is free on $5,000 bond after being charged with two counts of sexual battery.
District Attorney Ben Creekmore told the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal the investigation involves allegations of an improper relationship between 37-year-old Melissa Mathis and a student. He declined to discuss the allegations.
Mathis was booked into the Tippah County Jail Thursday and released on a property bond.
It was unclear whether Mathis had an attorney.
