LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - A 911 operator is on paid administrative leave as authorities in Arkansas investigate delays in dispatching fire and police to an accident in which a woman later died and a child was critically injured.

Little Rock Police said Tuesday the operator received a call of two people trapped in a vehicle in a pond in west Little Rock at 7:57 a.m. Monday. An ambulance was dispatched four minutes later. However, police say the fire department was not sent with a water rescue unit until 8:23 a.m. - 26 minutes later - after the ambulance service called to verify that the department was en route.

Police were dispatched 30 minutes after the first call.

The woman driving the vehicle later died and her 5-year-old son was hospitalized in critical condition.
