JACKSON, Miss. (AP, abc24.com) - People who want to carry a gun to the courthouse, on a college campus or in a bar in Mississippi may now be able to do that by taking an eight-hour course and getting a concealed carry permit.

The Clarion-Ledger reports that at least 98 people have such permits under a law that was approved this year and took effect July 1.

The Department of Public Safety has been working to carry out the enhanced concealed carry program to allow weapons where they previously have been banned.

A law barring guns in courthouses, college campuses and bars is still on the books. But the attorney general's office has interpreted that the new law allows guns in the new locations. Also, courts often defer to the most recent law.
