LENOIR CITY, Tenn. (AP, abc24.com) - A yearbook article about a gay student's experiences at Lenoir City High School has ignited both anger and support in the community.

The Knoxville News Sentinel reported yearbooks were distributed Friday and by Monday local Internet blogs were posting opinions against and for the article, which was unsigned, and the faculty adviser to the student staff that produced the yearbook.

School Principal Steve Milsaps said he received multiple emails from parents and citizens.

The article, titled "It's OK to be Gay," profiles the experiences of student Zac Mitchell, who was interviewed for the report.

Loudon County School Board member Van Shaver used his blog to call for a criminal investigation into the faculty advisers.

Earlier, the student newspaper was told not to publish an essay by an atheist.
