JACKSON, Miss. (AP, abc24.com) - The House passed a bill Friday that aims to reduce regulation on small businesses.

The bill would establish a Small Business Regulatory Review Committee to examine which regulations discourage small businesses from opening or prevent them from thriving. The committee would be able to petition state agencies to alter rules that negatively affect small businesses.

Gov. Phil Bryant commended the bill saying that small businesses comprise the majority of the state's employers.

The 12-member committee would be chosen in equal measure by the speaker of the House, governor, and lieutenant governor. Small business owners and those nominated by Mississippi business groups would comprise the committee and would serve two-year terms.

The bill is House Bill 1186.
