LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP, abc24.com) - The National Weather Service says a winter storm is expected to bring snow, sleet and freezing rain to parts of Arkansas on Monday.

Forecasters say the storm system could be a "significant weather event" in parts of the state. Colder-than-average temperatures are predicted throughout Arkansas for the weekend and a storm system will approach the state from the southern plains.

Forecasters say snow and sleet are expected in northern and central Arkansas. A combination of rain and freezing rain is possible in southern parts of the state.

The weather service says the morning commute could be difficult Monday because of the weather.
