Austin Nichols Named Mr. Basketball

Austin Nichols from Briarcrest Christian School was named Mr. Basketball for 2013. This is the second consecutive year that Nichols has been named the winner of the award. The other two finalists were Corneilus Elder of Ensworth High School and Reggie Upshaw from Baylor School.

Nichols is a 6’9”, senior, forward/center. He is a four-year starter for the Saints who averages 21.5 points, 11.7 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game. He shoots 73% from the field, 38.5% from three-point range, and 70% from the free-throw line. Austin has over 1800 points and over 900 rebounds in his career. He is a three-time Player of the Year in the Division II-AA West Region, and was a member of the All-State Tournament team last year. He was a finalist for Mr. Basketball his sophomore year, and he won the award last season as a junior.
