NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Vanderbilt running back Warren Norman's playing days are over. The 2009 Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Year said Wednesday at a news conference that the knee injuries that limited him the past two seasons have cut his college career short.
The running back from Stone Mountain, Ga., explained that he talked with his family, doctors and coach James Franklin before deciding to forego his final season. He added that he considered both his current health and long-term situation plus Vanderbilt going from what he called the "dark ages" of consecutive 2-10 seasons to the past two seasons under Franklin.
Norman ran for 783 yards as a freshman and scored three touchdowns on kickoff returns to become only the second Vanderbilt player to be named the SEC's Freshman of the Year.
