MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - The University of Memphis named Justin Fuente as the new Tigers head football coach on December 8, 2011.

35-year-old Fuente has spent the past three seasons as TCU's co-offensive coordinator but has no head coaching experience.

"There's a lot of great things about Memphis football. We've just got to get to them," Fuente stated at an afternoon press conference. "I know how to build a program. I was at a place where we don't always have the biggest stick, but we got it done."

Fuente played two seasons at Oklahoma as a quarterback before transferring to Murray State. He worked at Illinois State for six seasons before joining TCU in 2007 as running backs coach.

He replaces Larry Porter, who was fired after their season-ending 44-7 to eventual Conference USA champion Southern Mississippi on Nov. 26. Porter was 3-21 in two seasons as head coach of his alma mater.
