MEMPHIS, TN – Memphis used the long ball Wednesday night to beat Albuquerque 3-2 at AutoZone Park.

The Redbirds blasted three home runs in the victory, while the Isotopes picked up two for the only form of scoring on the night. Eugenio Velez gave the ‘Birds a 1-0 lead in the first with his long ball to right field before the ‘Topes tied it up in the fourth with a homer by Matt Angle. Albuquerque snatched a 2-1 lead with a dinger by Jerry Sands in the sixth before Mark Hamilton and Zack Cox hit back-to-back jacks in the seventh to take back the lead.

Memphis reliever Jess Todd picked up the win in two innings of work. The right-hander allowed one run on two hits to notch his first victory on the year. Albuquerque starter John Ely took the loss giving up all three home runs on five hits over seven innings. Maikel Cleto nailed down his first save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning while striking out one. Redbirds starter Shelby Miller allowed one run on one hits in his five innings while walking three and striking out five.

The ‘Birds and ‘Topes play Thursday night with game time scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Every Thursday Fans can receive half off game day ticket prices with a receipt from Subway, limit four. There will be a $25 Subway gift certificate given away during the game and if the Redbirds win, Subway coupons will be distributed upon exit.
