MEMPHIS, TN – Nashville beat Memphis for the second straight night with a 5-2 win Saturday night at AutoZone Park.
The Sounds jumped on Redbirds starter Shelby Miller for three runs in the third inning before the right-hander was taken out of the game due to his pitch count of 68. Miller suffered his eighth loss, giving up three runs on three hits and four walks while fanning four in just 2.1 innings of work.
Reliever Brian Broderick allowed the last two Nashville runs on the night with a safety squeeze in the sixth and a solo home run by Caleb Gindl in the seventh. Gindl led Nashville going 2-for-5 on the night with three RBI while Eric Farris picked up a three-hit performance as well. Zack Cox and Pete Kozma were the only two ‘Birds to drive in a run on the night, despite the Redbirds out-hitting the Sounds 10-8.
Memphis and Nashville wrap up their five-game series Sunday with first pitch at 6:05 p.m.
