KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Former Tennessee coach Pat Summitt will have a banner raised in her honor at Thompson-Boling Arena before the Lady Vols' Jan. 28 game with Notre Dame.

Tennessee athletic director Dave Hart called Summitt "a legend who transcends women's basketball" in a university statement announcing the ceremony.

Summitt stepped down as Tennessee's coach last year after going 1,098-208 and winning eight national titles in 38 seasons. She has the most career wins of any Division I men's or women's basketball coach ever.

Summitt announced in 2011 that she has early-onset dementia, Alzheimer's type. She remains on Tennessee's staff as head coach emeritus.

Previous Lady Vols to receive this honor include Holly Warlick (No. 22), Bridgette Gordon (No. 30), Daedra Charles (No. 32), Chamique Holdsclaw (No. 23) and Tamika Catchings (No. 24).
