Welcome to the"South". More of this Good Ol" Boy BS happens than you know. Down here Dogs & Cats are Very disposable. These animals in my opinion are worth more than a lot of the Animal Control people. :(

You're right, Nelly. Anyone who has been at MAS long enough to know there was abuse and still did nothing needs to be tossed out NOW.

I'm beyond disgusted with Mayor Wharton, Janet Hooks, Shelter Director Rogers and all of the others in this administration who are supporting the torture of animals. These depraved people who commit and watch the sadistic torture of animals are also a danger to the citizens of our city. Fire these people now!!! Clean House Now!!

I strongly feel those two employees should be let go; as we learned last week even a reprimand in their file would be purged after six months under their union contract (as signed by AC Wharton). The entire shelter needs to have a house cleaning - Jeanne as head of "Friends" need to be relieved of her position as well, in her role on the advisory board she is no friend to the hurt and weary animals that have the misfortune to find themselves in that "shelter". Jeanne enables Rogers and the cruel practices that happened last year, that are happening today and unless changes comes about soon, will still be happening... People of Memphis, this has to top.

If the person running the shelter actually liked animals people would be getting fired over this nonsense. There needs to be a new person running that place that actually has a heart and compassion towards animals. Roger does not! If its OK to do this in the shelter then why are there laws against it and police officers jobs to catch those who do. I am completely pissed about how this city can allow this to go on.

Serial killers statistically torture animals before moving to humans. Why is the government employing psychopaths!! Anyone who could intentionally harm and take pleasure in another living creature should not receive public funds to do so!! And neither should anyone who stands quietly by and allows misconduct at best and inhumanity at worst. INJUSTICE ANYWHERE THREATENS JUSTICE EVERYWHERE.

They've known this all along and were hoping to sweep it under the rug, as is standard procedure for the City and Embarrassing Things We Got Caught Doing. Thank you ABC24 for reporting on it! Maybe someone will decide to do the decent thing and fire those who enabled the abuse to continue for God knows how long before it was finally stopped.

Of course things are still messed up at that sorry excuse for anything's "shelter". We have a mayor and city council who believe that this is a non-issue. "They're only dogs," claim most of them.
