LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The University of Memphis softball team was unable to overcome six errors and 10 walks in a 12-4 loss to Idaho State on Friday afternoon at Eller Media Stadium in the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic.

Memphis (2-5) took an early 1-0 lead in the second, but a seven-run inning on one hit by ISU (2-5) in the fourth would be too much for the Tigers to battle back from. The U of M outhit Idaho State 11-8 with both senior first baseman Jessica Phillips and junior shortstop Morgan Mosby recording three hits.

Sophomore Ellen Roberts (1-2) suffered the loss for Memphis. The Australian native threw three and a third innings and allowed five runs on four hits with a walk and two strikeouts. The Tigers used four pitchers in the game with relievers Lauren Carley, Jordan Richwood and Sara Pearson combining for seven runs, three earned, along with nine walks and four strikeouts.

Amanda Fitzsimmons (2-1) earned the victory in relief for Idaho State. Fitzsimmons pitched the final three and a third innings and allowed no runs on three hits with a walk and three strikeouts. Kelsi Ott started the game for the Bengals, allowing four runs on eight hits in three and two-third innings.

Gabby Lopez went 2-for-4 for ISU with three RBI, while Becky Simonsen scored three runs.

Memphis scored a run in the second inning on an RBI single by Ashleigh King to score Roberts from third. The Tigers scored three more runs in the fourth inning on RBI singles by Kassy Dunn, Mosby and Phillips.
