MEMPHIS, TN -- Tigers coach Josh Pastner made good use of the final evaluation period of the 2011-2012 NCAA calendar which just wrapped up July 31. Melrose High School standout 6-5 swingman Markel Crawford has decided to join the University of Memphis roster next season.

Crawford gave a verbal commitment to Pastner Wednesday morning (Aug. 8) after making a visit to the campus. If both sides follow through with their agreement, it will be yet another highly sought after Bluff City recruit who has decided to play at home.

He turned heads at the NBPA Top 100 camp in June in Charlottesville, Virginia, before tearing his ACL in July during an AAU game on the Atlanta Xpress roster.

Crawford picked Memphis over programs such as Tennessee, Arkansas, Texas, Florida and UCLA.
