MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - The man accused swindling money by pretending to be a U.S. Marine has turned himself in to Germantown police.
On October 5, a white male suspect claiming to be a Marine approached a man at the Chick-fil-A in Germantown asking him for a loan of $550. The suspect claimed that his wallet was locked in his car and would repay the man upon retrieval of his wallet. The victim then drove the man to an ATM and withdrew the $550 dollars, but became suspicious and began asking questions. The suspect then fled the scene on foot.
After surveillance from the ATM transaction was released to the public, tips led investigators to identify the suspect as 32-year-old Lee Patrick Broome of Memphis. A warrant was issued for his arrest on charges of theft and criminal impersonation and he turned himself in to authorities without incident.
