MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - - "My thing is if they're going to come back, don't come back with your face covered. Come back where we can see you so we can face this head on. Don't hide behind that white sheet you wear on your face," said Gwen Martindale.

She is unhappy to hear about the KKK's plans to rally in the Bluff City.
The Klan's return is because of the vote by Memphis City Council to re-name Nathan Bedford Forrest Park, along with two others.

"The last time we was here there was a big riot, this time, the Klan will be prepared. Thousands," said Exalted Cyclops Edward.

"I want to put my foot in his behind. That's how it makes me feel. I'll beat the hell out of them. So they need to stay out of my way. It's as simple as that. That's all I'll say. I don't like racism. Stay away from me," said Wendol Lee.

On Martin Luther King Day, 1998, a riot broke out. Memphis Police Director Toney Armstrong, an undercover officer at the time, was hit in the face with a brick and tear gas.
"We'll prepare for the worst and pray for the best," said Toney Armstrong.

He said his officers will be ready.

"I don't care how much police you put out there, if they're going to have a riot, somebody's going to wind up getting hurt," said Gwen Martindale.

Whether the planned KKK rally is violent or peaceful, it still makes some people uneasy.

"I feel like it's an re-enactment of history that's trying to manifest itself in the future," said Authenia Ellis.

According to a letter sent by the KKK to Mayor A C Wharton and Memphis City Council members Friday, no date has been set for the rally. But, the letter states, "We in the Loyal White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan are going to bring together as many Klans as we can into the city of Memphis. As you read this now we are already putting together a Ku Klux revival planned for your town. We are not going to let the statue or signs to do with Mr Nathan Bedford Forrest come down with out a fight."

As a white man,I do not feel the hatred that others may have, and i do not plan on attending! To support one side against the other only fertilizes the hatred!

Hate groups are hate!! Hate in our world(regardless of what race it is by or against) is WRONG!!!! Why do people focus soo much attention on Race/skin color and other differences we have...If For ONE week, we would LOVE, encourage and help one another(of ALL races/skin colors/religions/orintations/etc)we would see Memphis become a powerful, and very different city!! Focus on Love, not hate regardless of our differences!!

@REALDEAL....White people have everything, don't we as blacks deserve something positive. The naacp are not cowards they fight for us when illegal and hatred violence is used against us. i guess u are one of those ignoranmos who believes black shouldnt have anything, Why can't we a miss black america? She aint hung nobody? Why can't we have the naaccp, they haven't hung and torched anybody? We deserve to have positive things and organizations. The KKK is not a positive organization, they have hung, killed, abused blacks for years. All they are is hate. BTW, the naacp does not have to wear sheets over their heads, we wear our faces proudly because we know that what we stand for is right. The KKK hide their faces because they know they are wrong. How can you love God, whom you have never seen but hate man who you see daily. The KKK is a bunch of fake Christians. God teaches love not hate. So like I said....they can burn in hell and you can follow them...no disrespect but we stand for our positive leaders not KKKILLERS!!!!!!

@ astornes/asstones: I wish the media 'would quit' about the naacp. They are a bunch of racist cowards who hide and hate. White is a color too. If the "black" panthers, miss "black" America, & the naa"c"p can exist, other hate groups DO have the SAME rights as these others. Double standards are what need fixing. If you don't like them, don't support them.

i wish the media would quit givin the kkk all this attention. the kkk is nothing but a bunch of cowards who hide and hate. They claim to be a Christian organization but how you claim Christianity when you have hate. No man is above God. We are all BROTHERS & SISTERS in Christ. They must have made their own WHITE VERSION BIBLE. AND YOU CANNOT COMPARE DR. KING TO NATHAN. NATHAN HATED, KILLED AND TAUGHT VIOLENCE.....DR. KING TAUGHT NON-VIOLENCE. I CATEGORIZE NATHAN AS OSAMA BIN LADEN. WHAT MAKES A PERSON THINK BECAUSE THEY ARE OF A DIFFERENT SKIN COLOR THAT THEY ARE BETTER THAN ANOTHER RACE...THAT DOESN'T SOUND LIKE A CHRISTIAN GROUP TO ME, IT SOUNDS MORE LIKE SOME OF SATAN'S DEMONS POSING AS CHRISTIANS. GOOD LUCK IN HELL KKK!

They have the right to protest. I have the right to ignore them. This is what I hope Memphians will do. Besides, I have more important things to consider other than the nmae of a park.

African-Americans are "upset"? I'm "upset" over what African-Americans have done to Memphis. I'm uspet at having to support a segment of society that basically contributes nothing as a whole. I'm upset over the racial double standard in this country. So I guess we are ALL upset.

If the klan wants to do something to honor General Forrest, they should follow his orders to disband.
