In other countries such as Germany and Greece, recent demonstrations of right wing extremists (Nazis and the Golden Dawn party) have been surrounded and shut down peacefully by civilians. It's a powerful message to send to young people--hate is not welcome in our town! Read more here http://rt.com/news/dresden-anti-nazi-protest-168/

The first amendment is not dead. The concept of the market place of ideas was never some weak right where one party got to shout its ideas out unopposed in public. Its meant to be a debate, thats how it evolved in Athens. People are supposed to argue in public with bad ideas and the public gets to decide. This whole idea of the KKK getting to rant undebated in a public square is proof our educational system has failed. Get out their and argue with them! It works. They are not equipped to argue their ideas in public. Big surprise, the KKK sucks at debate skills. The excel at violence but their will be a zillion cops to drag them off if they try that. That leaves argument. Don't simply be disgusted, go and argue with them like is supposed to happen in democracy. Make them support their ideas in the public park while yall argue back. Show in the market place of ideas they are bankrupt. The first amendment can be a dangerous weapon against bad ideas and logic when citizens actually use it.

Welcome KKK....Is Wharton (Onion Head) going to present the keys to the city as was done for Farrakhan? ANY business this city gets should be welcomed with opened arms....why the double standard?

I agree with this group on the issue of the renaming of the park - but not on much else. That said, the appearance of the KKK is no different than an appearance by Louis Farrakhan and his hateful anti-white rhetoric. Only when the racial double standard is eliminated in this country will there ever be a chance for any kind of racial unity.

Doesn't it trouble anyone else that Tony thinks that freedom of speech for everyone is a "flaw" in the liberties and freedoms?

Exactly Suburb. Has any one thought to just ignore these clowns. All they want is the attention you're giving them. What could look more stupid than a kkk rally guarded by police with no supporters? A bunch of knuckleheads on the other side screaming back at them.

They say the are coming, but the only way it'll be a HUGE problem is if others feed into their mess! Let them stand out there and march around their signs in protest...and go back to where they come from, if they don't get the uproar and attention they want they will leave!
