SOUTHAVEN, MS (abc24.com) - A DeSoto County Sheriff's Deputy was airlifted to The MED after a motorcycle accident Wednesday afternoon.

The accident occurred just before 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20 near the intersection of I-55 and Church Road in Southaven. Investigators say the deputy was traveling eastbound on Church Road with a group of other police motorcycles when he was hit by a vehicle making a left turn onto Airways Blvd.

According to the DeSoto Co. Sheriff's Dept., Deputy Mike Cowan suffered a broken right arm and leg, and is awaiting an MRI. He is currently listed in non-critical condition.

Deputy Cowan had been taking part in a motorcycle training event at the Southaven Town Center Mall with several other law enforcement agencies to raise money for the Make A Wish Foundation. He was likely making a gas run with other participants when the accident happened.

The incident remains under investigation by the Southaven Police Department.

With all government agencies being broke wouldn't it make sense to eliminate paying for expense of motorcycles & cops pays for these events? Also why do so many cops show up when a cop gets hurt & have all must waste taxpayers money to go to the hospital. Sure wish they would show as much interest in the people they are suppose to serve & protect. End the wastful prcties.
