MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - All 66 Memphis Police recruits have filed injury claims after a "bear crawl" exercise on a hot day.

The exercise was conducted on June 28 - a day when the high temperature ultimately reached 101 degrees.

Initially 10 recruits reported on-the-job injuries, but the entire class eventually filed claims.

Police spokeswoman Karen Rudolph said the bear crawl is a strength-building exercise done on all fours, using hands and feet to run like a bear. Rudolph said some recruits received first aid at the training academy while other did not require medical attention.

In August 2009, an unidentified police recruit was accidentally shot in the arm during training.

Recruits are going through 21 weeks of training and will graduate in November.

I happen to know one of the individuals in the new class and this 'news story' does NOT have all the facts at all. How is it whining when you can't use your damn hands for a week? How is it that the people over the class were ALL sent from training and replaced before this story even broke? Get the facts before calling these new recruits 'whiners.' I

And they wonder why so many want their CCP's & the ability to protect themselves. THIS is all we have watching out for US?!?!? Did they not have any MEN apply for this class?!

maybe they should have grown up like a lot of us and chopped cotton this time of year. Or matbe next memorial day have a new respect for our troops engaged in battles in sweltering heat while in full combat gear. Must have been recruited from an obama rally or uccupy 'this' protest.

To save time, medical pensions, and frivolous lawsuits in the future, they need to just to ahead and get rid of this class now, and start over.

So I guess if it's hot out, you don't have to chase criminals? Suck it up! Those that needed medical attention got it. Some didn't need it at all! Do you want some cheese to go with your whine?

66 out of 66. Not really sure what message they are trying to send. Where did MPD recruit this class? How often has it really happened in the past? What sort of revelations will the next cycle of new talent bring?

So in otherwords, all 66 new cops are whiny babies? Just who we need patroling the streets.
