JONESBORO, AR (abc24.com) - The mother of a Southaven man found suffering from a gunshot wound in the back of a Jonesboro Police Department patrol car says she doesn't buy a newly released re-enactment video the department says shows it is possible for handcuffed person to shoot themselves.

Teresa Carter says the video doesn't change her mind, she maintains Chavis Carter was murdered.

Jonesboro Police pulled Carter and two other men over late last month. Carter was arrested after police said they found he had about $10 worth of marijuana on him.

According to police, Carter was frisked, put in the back of the patrol car, and then frisked again.

Minutes later, two patrolmen reported hearing a sound, and found Carter suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

After the incident, Carter's mom said she believed he was shot by someone else, but Police Chief Michael Yates said evidence suggested Carter shot himself.

Police said the 2-minute video was produced to show it is possible for someone to shoot themselves in the head, even while handcuffed.

"I just don't believe it, because I have tested myself to see if I could do it," said Dr. George Grant, a board member with the Jonesboro chapter of the NAACP. "Someone shot him, someone shot him. It is clear, someone shot him in the head."

"Explain to me how a person is searched twice, they find a small quantity of marijuana but they miss the gun? Ok?" he added.

More than 75 people attended a community forum on Tuesday night to discuss Carter's death.

"I think it is a cold blooded, calculated, pre-meditated lie to deceive us," said Isaac Richmond when asked about the police video. "Chavis Carter was murdered and those who were with him know who did it."

Police Chief Yates has said he will release dash cam video of the incident once the investigation is complete. Preliminary autopsy results were still pending Tuesday night.

The two officers involved in Carter's traffic stop remain on paid administrative leave.

The citizens for the uprightusa.org alliance resembles this official abuse! Regarding the made up police vodeo - Show a lie enough times, and people will begin to accept it. (Hitler gained support by doing this too.) Otherwise, why else would the police obstruct justice and taint the jury pool at the same time if they were not trying to hide something? Email me (aaronwemple@gmail.com) for a civil rights lawsuit that all of us should file, and everyone can file themselves in order to straighten the whole system out.

Ok so I was thinking maybe he tried to shoot the cuffs off but clearly that wasnt the case. Maybe he did kill himself but that doesnt make the cop innocent. If he had been doing his job and properly searched the guy then maybe he would have found the gun. Not only did the cop put himself at risk but other citizens at risk too. Reguardless JPD should still be taking some of the blame for this.

If there were a dashcam video supporting the cops version of reality it would be played over and over again.

Handcuffs are NEVER that loose. Cops lying to defend the action of rogue cops will only cause cops to be murdered. The people who made this video should do jail time as accomplices. The Jonesboro police chief needs to pull his head out. And cops applauding this cover-up need to rethink...you are putting yourself and your "brothers" in the line of fire. I would never shoot at a cop. But I won't cry when bad ones are taken down for stepping outside the law, like someone clearly has here.

When the dash cam footage reveals that he did in fact shoot himself, what will they say then? Oh, the video is doctored, the witness are in on it. And gunpowder residue on his hands? How'd that get there.

Just because you can be denied employment as a cop because of a high IQ does not mean the rest of the country is as intellectually challenged as you and your officers are Yates. http://abcnews.go.com/US/story?id=95836&page=1#.TwC7qoHwOKV
