MEMPHIS, TN - A man has been arrested after being involved in a hit and run crash that killed a 4-year-old girl.

According to Memphis police, 32-year-old Darrian Eldridge was arrested on Wednesday, August 3, 2011. Police say the wreck happened around 7:15 p.m. near I-240 and South Parkway.

The investigation shows Eldridge was driving a large SUV at high-speed when he hit another car, causing it to swerve into a guardrail, roll over and eject a passenger from a window.

Eldridge then hit two other cars before fleeing the scene.

Emergency medical personnel pronounced a 4-year-old girl dead on the scene and a second passenger of the vehicle that rolled over, a 15-month-old boy, was taken to LeBonheur in non-critical condition.

No one in the other vehicles was injured.

Its to bad they can't charge him with the officers death too. If it wasn't for him the officer wouldn't be working a T/C in the HEAT !!!!!

not to make matters worse for the little girls family, but I wonder if they properly had the little girl restrained in a carseat or had on a seatbelt?? I have seen too many parents who let their small child stand up or ride around without seatbelts on. I hope she had on a seatbelt...

What kind of individual would drive away, knowing that a innocent person (in this case a child)lie injured and possibly dead from THEIR ACTIONS. The law has only one answer to the crime, prison time. I believe vehicular homicide with life in prison would be unfair, to him and to us. Society has to pay to house, clothe and feed this person and there is no justice for the victim or the victim's family. We have enough scum in our prisons and death penalty would be a significant deter to follow. We recently had a woman in Southaven, who ran over an elderly woman TWICE, in the commission of of a felonious crime. Why would we want to feed, clothe and house such utter garbage in our prison system?
