MOSCOW, TN (abc24.com) - A Fayette County man was cited with 168 counts of animal cruelty after officers found them at his Moscow, TN home in deplorable conditions.

Officers were called to the home of 68-year-old William Parr on reports of possible child neglect and animal abuse. According to the court affidavit, the officers found animals throughout the home that had been caged in their own urine and feces for a long period of time. The animals appeared to be dehydrated with untrimmed, curled toenails, the officers noted. Also, more than 20 of the animals were dead with pronounced signs of decay, and hundreds of baby field mice were living in the home.

Veterinarians were called to the scene and transported cats, dogs, ferrets, rats mice, hamsters, lizards, birds, rabbits and guinea pigs from the residence to a shelter facility for medical attention.

William Parr was charged with 168 counts of Animal Cruelty. He is scheduled to appear in court October 23.
