MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - A former MCS teacher who cruised around in his flashy purple car and propositioned young boys for sex is now cruising out of prison.
Darrin Miller, who taught theater at Sheffield High, pleaded guilty to multiple counts of sexual exploitation and solicitation of a minor. He was arrested in November of 2011 after six boys told police that Miller offered them money for sex.
People who live near Melrose High, where Miller approached two boys on two different occasions, told abc24.com, "I feel he's a wicked man. It's a cold thing." "He can't come around here bruh. They show one picture he's through. One picture he's through."
Last December he pleaded guilty to four counts of sexual exploitation of a minor. Miller entered an Alford plea on three other counts. An Alford plea lets someone plead guilty while at the same time maintain their innocence. So, after 15 months he's being released.
Terry Lyles said, "To me I think he should stay locked up. Never get out. It's very disappointing because the justice system didn't do what it's supposed to do. He should have at least gotten 15 years, 15 to life instead of 15 months."
Darrin Miller will be on probation for eight years. He also has to register as a Sex Offender.
