MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Memphis Councilwoman Janis Fullilove could soon be in the clear.
She's facing a Domestic Assault charge after a spat with her husband turned violent. Her lawyer is trying to get the charge dropped.
Fullilove may be required to undergo marital counseling as well as anger management classes.
“Hopefully we can get this resolved so she can get beyond this and move on with her life and get back to serving the citizens of the City of Memphis,” said Fullilove’s lawyer, Arthur Horne.
Fullilove and her husband, Vernon Chalmers, were arrested after they fought in their Whitehaven home in August.
According to the police affidavit, the councilwoman accused Chalmers of cheating and threw dishes at him. Police say Chalmers responded by physically restraining her.
Fullilove is scheduled to be in court again February 4th.
