BATESVILLE, MS (abc24.com) - Investigators say a stray bullet from a man hunting on his property led to the accidental shooting of a student on a Panola County School bus.

The incident occurred around 4:15 p.m. on Monday, January 28. The bus driver called 911 when a bullet broke a bus window and struck a second grade student in the back. The child was airlifted to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital in Memphis, and was last reported in stable condition.

Investigators with the Panola County Sheriff's Department determined a 73-year-old man was hunting on his property nearby when a stray bullet ricocheted, hitting the student.

The incident is still under investigation by the District Attorney, but so far no charges have been filed.

Let's either pass strict gun laws and ban all military style assault weapons, or come up with a mandatory test for stupid. Which do you suppose would achieve more reliable results over time?
