Memorial Services Set for "Mr. Chuck"

MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Memorial services have been arranged for children's television host and early education advocate Charles Scruggs, known to generations on Memphians as "Mr. Chuck".

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 25 at two locations:

R.S. Lewis & Sons Funeral Home

Noon - 4 p.m.

374 Vance Ave


St. Therese-Little Flower Catholic Chuch

5:30 p.m. - 8 p.m.

1644 Jackson Ave


Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 26 at St. Therese-Little Flower Catholic Church at 10 a.m.

Scruggs came to Memphis in 1972 as VP - General Manager of WDIA before joining WKNO, the Memphis PBS station, in 1993. His Emmy award-winning children's show "Hello Mr. Chuck!" began airing in 1995.

He also championed the need for early childhood literacy through programs with Memphis City Schools, the Memphis Public Library, daycares, community centers, and head start programs.

Charles "Mr. Chuck" Scruggs leaves behind his wife, two sons and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was 80 years old.
