MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Memphis police made the shocking discovery of a half dozen guns inside a dumpster at Poplar Plaza Friday morning.

Officers were called to the shopping center behind CiCi's Pizza just before 11 a.m. on Friday, January 25. Three shotguns and three rifles were found discarded in the dumpster.

Joe Bartos, who works nearby, was on the scene with a small crown of onlookers as police pulled the weapons from the dumpster. Dozens of children were enjoying lunch just yards away.

"I'm a firm believer of the 2nd amendment but I believe illegal guns should be off the street," he told abc24.com. "You put it in a dumpster, kids, children, people that don't know how to handle guns probably get a hold of them. That's how they end up on the street. That's how murders get committed."

Police are still investigating where the guns came from.
