Six Charged in Drug Raid where MPD Officer was Shot

MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Six people were arrested at the home where a Memphis officer was shot Tuesday while serving a drug warrant.

Police with MPD's Organized Crime Unit were serving the warrant at a residence on the 4000-block of Berkshire in the Nutbush area around 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 5. An officer was sent to secure the perimeter while other officers were serving the warrant. As the officers entered the home they were charged by three pit bulls. An officer opened fire with his shotgun, killing two of the dogs. Shots went through a door and struck the officer outside.

Officer Calvin Taylor was transported to The MED in non-critical condition for two gunshot wounds to his leg. Police arrested six suspects on the scene: Wayman May, 45; Kendall Draffin, 41; Shirley Jackson, 54; Erika Fitch, 32; Aden Wilson, 41; and Williams Vanderford, 50.

All six suspects were charged with multiple drug offenses, including Possession of Cocaine, Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. All are scheduled to appear in court March 7.
