MEMPHIS, TN--The gun violence continues in Memphis. A 2-year-old child shot was shot early Wednesday morning by a stray bullet.
Now. Memphis police are trying to figure out who fired the shots. It happened around 9:30 this morning in the often troubled Warren Apartments in south Memphis.
The child was sitting in an apartment watching TV when neighbors say she was struck in the arm by a stray bullet.
“Officers did locate a two year old female child that was shot. The child has been transported to LeBonheur in critical condition,” Sgt. Karen Rudolph said.
Police say a man was also shot at the apartment complex and investigators are looking into whether there was a third victim.
Neighbors say as bad as this shooting was, it could have been worse.
Not only were several children in the apartment where the two year old was shot, but stray bullets hit at least two other apartments.
"Oh, it was a bunch of them. It was like pop, pop, pop pop, pop," says resident Beverly Wallace.
Wallace says she was asleep when the shots rang out.
"I was just a nervous wreck. I need my heart pills right now,” she said.
Now, she and her family desperately want out.
“This is too much over here, they need to close this place down. There is too much happening over here. This is not a place for children,” Wallace said.
Investigators say they have no suspects and no motive for the shooting. They say there was a fight near the complex around the time of the gunfire.
