I think that having sex with that loser was probably punishment enough for the poor, stupid girl. I understand some would want the girl to suffer some punishment and responsibility for her actions, but I think it's easy to lose sight of the main purpose of these laws which is to prevent stupid girls from being impregnated by perverted, jobless mexicans and therefore creating a new generation of welfare abusing burdens on our society. When I moved to Georgia years ago, the age of consent was 14. No matter the age, minors shouldn't be charged as adults when they commit crimes.

How about charging this stupid girl for statutory seduction, after she cowardly turned a consensual sex into a statutory rape scenario? Yes, the kid is too young to control his impulses and urges with premeditated mentality - Oh, she is under age, I need to stay away from this! Who at this age reason as an adult? That's the first thing. If the girl cannot provide facts that the sex was not consensual (makes it a rape, doesn't it?), then it was mutual agreement between the two, and she should be held responsible as well, otherwise every woman you meet at a bar for a date and take her home, can turn you into a victim of our constipated legal system with a simple finger snap and twist of truth. Whatever the reason for her changing the story is, nobody dragged her kicking and screaming, nobody held her at the gun point or under a knife against her will, she was willing and going! Shouldn't we adopt a law that also prosecutes under age teen girls for a consensual sex under similar statue as the law that prosecutes anyone who is engaging into sex acts with them? Another food for thought - with every new generation sociologists and scientists note that the human beings, especially females, show tendency to mature earlier in life than the previous generation. Not physically, but mentally, mainly due to amount of information floating within the society... So how can we approach and treat this dilemma without breaking our moral obligations and without inflicting harm to the young people? It takes a mirror to blame, but not to break!

Im not saying what he did was right in any way but a 16 year old knows better than to leave school and have sex with someone that much older than her. They need to have some kind of punishment for her as well. They also need to look into how she got off campus with him. Hes not the only guilty party. Had the school followed proper pickup procedure this probably would not have happened.

Something similar to this happened at the local junior high, although the girl was 12 and the guy was ten years her senior. The school got suspicious, as this was happening far too often, and asked for an ID, at which time they realized this man was NOT the girl's brother as her claimed to be. Oh, she became pregnant...what is wrong with these people? The police were brought into the mix, but the parents refused to press charges, get this, because he was a famly friend. How's that for protecting your daughter? Family values at their worst.

I think the line between consensual sex and statutory rape needs to be looked at again. Granted having sex with a minor is wrong. But if the minor was willing then how can it be rape. Its sad to say that a 17 yr old cant date and have sex with an 18 yr old. Not that they should be having sex at that age...but you see what Im saying. It sucks that because a girl said yes she did have sex with someone 18 and over that his life is screwed up now. Im not by all means saying what he did is right in this case seeing as he is 8 yrs older then her. He should have know better. Its just sad that a yr or 2 difference in age can ruin someones life.
