MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - No criminal charges will be filed against four Memphis police officers who fatally shot a suspect last month.

Officers were called to the 4000-block of Horn Lake Road at S. 3rd Street around 9:15 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8, where they found a man slumped over the steering wheel of a green Ford Taurus. The man, later identified at 38-year-old Dewayne Bailey, then got out of the car and started fighting with the officers, an MPD report states.

As police called for back-up, Bailey got back in the car and rammed two patrol cars while dragging an officer. They fired several shots at Bailey, hitting him multiple times; he was pronounced dead on the scene. The officer who was dragged was injured and treated on the scene.

The four officers involved were relieved of duty pending the outcome of the investigation. The Attorney General's Office later determined that no charges would be filed in the case.

35-year-old David Wagner, 25-year-old Paul Woods, 27-year-old Pierce Hayden and 27-year-old Steve Theriac all returned to duty on Monday, June 4.
