MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Do you feel lucky? Do you feel half a billion dollars lucky? Millions of people are digging into their wallets for a chance at the biggest payoff in lottery history. The Mega Millions jackpot Friday night is up to $500 million.

They were grabbing up tickets by the handful from Whitehaven to East Memphis. Nicholas Ford bought one. He told abc24.com, "Somebody's got to get lucky."

Lynne Landrum doesn't play Mega Millions often but she felt compelled to play now that the jackpot is at half a billion. She says if she wins, "everybody I love would never have to worry about anything again."

Philip Nicar plays often but he said this time it's different. He told abc24.com when it comes to buying a ticket that might net him $500 million, "You couldn't keep me away with a gun."

Nicar says he lets the computer pick his numbers and so does Vanda Price. "I'm just gonna go in and ask the machine to pick them and hopefully it'll send out something I like," Price said.

The Mega Millions drawing is Friday, March 30. The chances of winning are 1 in 176 million.
