MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Seven Memphis police officers were recently disciplined for an off-duty fight a year and a half ago.

The incident happened on July 4, 2011 - the same day Officer Timothy Warren was shot to death responding to a call at the Doubletree Hotel in downtown Memphis.

An MPD spokesperson says an off-duty officer was looking into a loud disturbance near Linden and 2nd Street when he got into a fight with two people. That officer requested assistance from additional officers, who were also off-duty at the time.

The two men were eventually arrested, but they complained to MPD's Internal Affairs Bureau about excessive force.

Following an investigation the Attorney General's office declined to press charges, but the department suspended all seven officers, identified as Marico Flake, Joshua Howard, Eric Lee, Steven Breth, Jonathan Barron, Francis Cherry and Cecil Fowler, for several days without pay following an administrative hearing on January 30.

The department only just released information on the incident at ABC 24's request due to the conclusion of their hearings.
