CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) - Ninety-six-year-old Dorothy Cooper has been voting for about as long as she can remember.

That's why she was eager to get a photo identification card when she heard it would be required for the next election.

But Cooper was denied the card on Monday at the state driver's license center, according to the Chattanooga Times Free Press.

That's because the name on her birth certificate did not match her married name and she did not have her marriage certificate.

Asked about the problem, Hamilton County's administrator of elections recommended Cooper vote with an absentee ballot so she wouldn't have to stand in line with her walker again. Absentee ballots don't require photo ID.

But Cooper said she will miss going to the voting precinct next door to her apartment.

Why doesn't someone volunteer to help her get the necessary documents so she can continue to vote. Where are the GOOD samaritans who know how to do this quickly in this internet age?

This another example of Republican controlled state houses changing the rules for voting. This nothing but another form of a poll tax. These new rules disproportionally affect the poor, people of color, and students who are likely to vote Democrat. All these new voting laws go directly against what this country should be advocating; full participation in the democratic process. This woman has voted in every election since she was 18 years old.

I'm astounded. Don't know whether to be angry or call 'foul ball' or what to do. How in the name of sanity did this story make it this far? A green reporter? An editor away on vacation?

Misleading title as usual. She was denied a Voter ID because she didn't present the proper identification, NOT as implied by the title that it had to do with her age!!
